Community Fellowship Center

2023

Goals

When we first started organizing groups of volunteers to help modify the homes of the disabled for easier living, we trained the volunteers in basic carpentry and grouped them by skill level for each project. They caught on quickly and in no time had a thorough grasp of all phases of the build. Our volunteers carry a great amount of pride in the fact that they are able to help those that need it most and they were able to learn a new skill at the same time. Win-win!

The success with our volunteers learning new skills got us thinking ... What if we expanded this program into a Workforce Development Mission and offered carpentry and laborer job skills training to those with hard-to-employ and ID (intellectual disabilities)? By taking a place-based approach we are able to give participants the confidence, knowledge and basic skills they need to enter the workforce. Now we have happy volunteers, engaged and confident workers learning new skills, and ecstatic recipients receiving ramps, stairlifts, or home repairs!

We are applying the same approach to our Food Bank delivery program. Instead of just using volunteers to prepare, package, and deliver food, we will be expanding this program into our Workforce Development Mission as well. By training those with low skills in catering and cooking skills, we can help prepare them for entering the service industry with confidence.

Our hope is that our Workforce Development Mission will encourage employers to get involved and participate in helping us grow our curriculum, identify skill development needs, create evaluation and assessment tools, and commit to job shadow programs.

2023 Wish List

Growing Our Local Missions

By starting small and embracing active fellowship through social action, we have avoided the overhead associated with a traditional church building. But we now need a dedicated space because we are growing quickly thanks to the shared spirit of our community and wonderful, loving people, such as yourself, who have a true calling to help build a better world.

We will be boosting our fundraising efforts in 2023 with the goal of adding even more local mission services, including a mission to build a Community Fellowship Center. We are planning a multi-use, energy-efficient center for our fellowship that will include an auditorium, a religious studies center, several training classrooms, a vocational training center, a commercial kitchen, meeting rooms, office spaces, a counseling center, a children's center and playground, and a carpentry workshop. With allowing plenty of room to grow, Phase 2 of the project will add exterior pavilions and bbq areas as well as indoor and outdoor recreational and fitness areas, landscaped grounds, and a special events center.
